there's a lot that goes into a good cup of coffee or matcha.
and quite a few things happening behind the bar at mu.sō that we probably should've told you about sooner.
from the ingredients we source to the syrups we make ourselves, we're pretty particular about what goes into our drinks. not because we want to make things complicated, but because we think you can taste the difference.
the syrups? we make them ourselves
all our syrups are handcrafted in-house, using real ingredients.
vanilla means actual vanilla beans. we use real honey, real maple syrup, and real spices rather than relying on artificial flavoring.
it's a little more work, but it's how we like to do things.
real fruit, real matcha
our guava matcha latte and lychee matcha cream top are two of our signature drinks, and both are made with 100% real fruit purees.
the matcha itself is something we're particularly proud of. ours comes directly from japanese farmers in mie prefecture, japan. it has a deep green color and a smooth, slightly astringent flavor profile that sets it apart from the uji matcha commonly found at coffee shops around los angeles.
fresh cream top, every day
if you've tried our cream top drinks, you know the texture is a big part of the experience.
we whisk our cream top fresh every day. it never comes from a can. just freshly prepared cream top that gives our iced coffees and matcha drinks their signature finish.
for milk, we use strauss organic dairy milk and califia oat and almond milks.
coffee from smaller farms around the world
our coffee beans come from smaller farms across asia, south america, and africa. we care about where our coffee comes from, how it's roasted, and how each espresso shot is prepared.
whether you're ordering a straight espresso, an iced latte, or one of our signature coffee drinks, the coffee itself should always taste great.
a few quieter favorites
not everything on our menu is about iced matcha or espresso.
our vanilla raf coffee is a bit of a hidden gem. creamy, rich, and almost like melted ice cream in a cup, it's also a nod to our coffee heritage.
and if you're taking a break from caffeine, our rose garden tea is made with real rose petals,
while our chamomile tea is brewed from actual dried chamomile flowers.
nothing particularly mysterious. just good ingredients treated properly.
the little things add up
we started mu.sō in west adams, los angeles, with a pretty simple idea: good coffee, good music, and a place people would want to spend time in.
the drinks have always been a big part of that. we care about the ingredients, the recipes, the way everything is prepared, and how it tastes when it reaches you.
some of these details might go unnoticed, and that's fine. we think they're worth doing anyway.
